Follows departure of Ramez Katf in April.

The Australian Tax Office has broadened its hunt for a new chief information officer to fill the role vacated by Ramez Katf earlier this year.

ATO seeks new CIO amid technology delivery shake-up

The ATO late last week launched a recruitment campaign for a single executive to be both its CIO and CSO, leading its Enterprise Solutions and Technology Group and overseeing both IT and cyber security leadership.

The role is expected to be filled by next month.

Katf had held the CIO role since 2015, and in May 2017, added second commissioner of enterprise solutions and technology to his remit.

He left in April, coinciding with the ATO changing the CIO role from a second commissioner position to a “band three” senior executive position.

Former deputy commissioner of strategy and architecture Matthew Hay has been acting in the CIO role since May 2024.

The ATO told iTnews that the new CIO will “deliver reliable, intuitive, contemporary, and secure technology solutions that foster trust and confidence in the tax, superannuation and registry systems”.

The office’s cyber security delivery is currently overseen by CISO Dan Barron while digital delivery is handled by Ben Foster, both of whom are in acting roles.
