Britt will officially retire as CEO on February 28. He will assume a non-executive director role on the ASX-listed company’s board while also taking on the title of special technical adviser.

Maher has been Aussie Broadband’s CFO since 2019 and is credited with steering Aussie Broadband’s $40 million initial public offering (IPO) in 2020.

He was appointed as Aussie Broadband CEO in February 2024 and will hold the title of group CEO from March 1 this year.

Rapid growth

Britt has led the entity known as Aussie Broadband since 2008, which he formed with chief technology officer John Reisinger through a merger between Wideband Networks and Westvic Broadband.

Prior to the merger, Britt was managing director of Wideband Networks.

During his tenure as Aussie Broadband managing director, Britt oversaw the telco's growth to Australia's fifth largest telco, which now has 780,259 broadband connections and a market cap of around $1 billion.

He also oversaw its acquisitions of Over the Wire and Symbio in 2022 and 2024 respectively.

“Phil has been responsible for the rapid growth of Aussie Broadband from a regional ISP to a national telco with a diversified product and customer base,” Aussie Broadband chair Adrian Fitzpatrick said.

“He has a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions in the telecommunications industry.”

On Maher’s leadership, Britt added that he was confident that “Aussie Broadband will continue to go from strength to strength".

Britt's departure follows that of Reisinger in August last year.
